Jene — Occupational Therapist
Jene received her Bachelor in Occupational Therapy at the University of Witwaterstrand , in South Africa. She has 20 years’ experience working as an Occupational Therapist , having specialised in the field of Paediatrics. She has worked in South Africa, United Kingdom and Australia. Jene has
done further advanced training in Sensory -integration Therapy and Bobath Neurodevelopmental Techniques(NDT). She has been trained in Therapeutic Listening , School Amps ,ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Assessment) and the SIPT (standardised test for diagnosing Developmental Co-
ordination Disorders). Jene has experience in assessing and prescribing specialised equipment (including vehicle modifications ). She also has experience in assessing and providing switches to improve independent play ,communication and all participation in all activities of daily living (including mobility ). She has recently completed her SAM training in switching and is currently finalising her accreditation .
Jene has a special interest is treating children with Autism and Cerebral Palsy, but has a vast experience in treating the following :
Feeding and eating difficulties ( Trained in Sequential Oral Sensory approach to feeding)
Sleep difficulties
Toileting difficulties
Dressing difficulties
Life skills difficulties
Emotional Regulation
Attention difficulties
Sensory Processing Disorder
Developmental co-ordination Disorder (including Dyspraxia )
Handwriting and typing difficulties
Upper limb management for spascity – including treatment and splinting
Outside work ,Jene enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She is very social and has a very strong love for all creatures big and small!
